Job Description
Overview:
A welder, under minimum to no supervision, sets-up, and operate a variety of welding machines, including SMAW, GTAW and GMAW. Must display ability to produce a complexity of parts conforming to blue prints and/or specifications in a proficient manner.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Accurately complete all necessary paperwork.
Use various measuring instruments to verify conformance of work pieces to specifications required by blueprints, specifications or procedures. Record welding log and maintain welding records.
Knowledge of production inventory management such as proper handling of scrap, questionable parts, identifying parts and parts inventory discrepancies.
Develop and demonstrate a working knowledge of welding equipment and processes and shop tool use.
Perform rework of parts when required.
Perform non-value added tasks internal to machine cycle in all cases where applicable (i.e.: preventative maintenance, inspection, clean-up, setups, deburring).
Assist in the solution of plant operating problems and/or cost reduction projects.
Assist in training of employees in the department and from other departments, job classifications, or levels
Operate and maintain equipment in department in a safe and productive manner. Knowledge of crane operation.
Knowledge of Preheat and PWHT procedures.
Interact with production employees, engineering, and management in the execution of day to day job tasks.
Demonstrate a dedicated responsibility and compliance with all safety and quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
Perform all general shop tasks assigned by supervisor or any other duties assigned by management.
Position Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent work experience (1 year). Follow verbal and/or written instructions.
Read and understand blueprints, specifications, and procedures.
Understand and effectively use general measuring instruments.
Demonstrate working knowledge of welding materials stainless steel, high nickel alloys, carbon steel, and stellite.
Qualification in welding procedures
Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Pulling/pushing, bending, standing, sitting, and walking are all encountered throughout the workday
• Lifting requirement of 45 pounds.
• Prior experience with applicable workmanship standards is a plus.
