Job Summary:
The Welder/Tanker Trailer Mechanic is responsible for performing structural and mechanical repairs to cryogenic tanker trailers, with a strong focus on aluminum TIG welding. This role includes welding, cutting, grinding, and refurbishing components, as well as assisting with mechanical trailer repairs. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in TIG welding aluminum and be able to pass an on-site welding test.
Essential Functions:
Welding & Fabrication
β’ Perform TIG welding on aluminum tanker trailer components (3+ yearsβ experience required)
β’ Weld carbon steel and stainless steel as needed (MIG, TIG, and stick welding)
β’ Cut, grind, and fabricate metal parts to restore or modify cryogenic tanker trailers
β’ Weld piping, brackets, frame components, and tanks in compliance with safety and industry standards
β’ Inspect finished welds for structural soundness and quality
Cryogenic Systems Repair
β’ Assist in diagnosing and repairing unload piping, valves, and product metering systems
β’ Perform basic maintenance on diesel-powered auxiliary engines used in cryogenic systems
β’ Safely work with components used in cryogenic gas delivery
Trailer Mechanical Repairs
β’ Perform inspections and maintenance of braking systems, lighting, and electrical accessories
β’ Conduct preventive maintenance such as lubrication, battery checks, and underbody inspections
β’ Replace or repair tires, wheel assemblies, and damaged trailer components
β’ Inspect and make minor repairs to air brake systems, cooling systems, and suspension components
Documentation & Compliance
β’ Maintain accurate maintenance records and repair logs
β’ Ensure all work meets DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards
β’ Follow proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous materials
Skills and Education Requirements:
β’ High school diploma or equivalent
β’ Minimum 3 years of TIG welding experience on aluminum (required)
β’ Ability to pass an on-site welding test (required)
β’ Valid driverβs license
β’ Ability to provide personal basic hand tools (tool list available upon request)
β’ Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and repair manuals
β’ Basic computer skills and ability to use maintenance software systems
β’ Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety protocols
β’ Comfortable working with hazardous materials and cryogenic systems
Working Environment:
This role is primarily performed in an industrial shop setting with some outdoor work required. Work may involve exposure to high noise levels, extreme temperatures, and confined spaces. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
