Company: Schneider Electric
Location: Grenoble, France
Posted Oct 02, 2024
Schneider Electric has developed a simulation framework for evaluating energy management solutions in the fields of buildings, microgrids, and electric mobility. This framework is also used for various other applications, including studies for the Schneider Electric Sustainability Research Institute (SRI), which analyzes major technological opportunities and challenges for a more sustainable future. The internship aims to extend the mentioned framework with a bidirectional electric vehicle charging control module. The main objective is to integrate this technology into SRI studies to quantify potential benefits (such as optimizing a building's electricity consumption through the flexibility provided by vehicle charging and discharging) and potential drawbacks (like accelerated battery degradation in vehicles). The intern will study existing solutions for bidirectional electric vehicle charging control (such as expert rules, Model Predictive Control, and stochastic programming), develop a bidirectional electric vehicle charging control module within a building equipped with a microgrid (solar panels and stationary battery), and validate the developed solution through simulations on a simple use case. Once the operation is validated, the intern will analyze the results of the studied use case and draw conclusions for the SRI. The intern should have a Master's degree or engineering diploma in Automatic Control/Electrical Systems/Energy Systems, be proficient in French and/or English, and have knowledge of Matlab/Simulink programming, control and optimization, simulation, electrical/energy systems, and software development. The internship duration is 6 months, starting in Q1 2025.
