Job Description
Summary
You will serve as a BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the THREATEND AND ENDANGERED SPECISIES SECTION, ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT DIVISION of MARINE CORPS BASE.
Duties
You will collect and assemble data from wildlife for use by management, and state and federal agencies.
You will maintain boundaries for endangered species sites.
You will record and maintain records of information and biological data collected.
You will perform monitoring and mapping of rare plants, marking of protected species habitats, and surveys for rare plants and animal species.
You will provide protection of red-cockaded woodpecker trees from fire, protection of sea turtle and bald eagle nests.
You will evaluate data and make recommendations for improvement of habitat and species.
You will assist in maintaining an active safety program.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You must be able to obtain and maintain Wildland Firefighter Type I or Type II (minimum) as defined in the National Interagency Incident Management System Wildland Fire Qualification Guide PMS 310-1 within 6 months of employment.
You must be able to pass "moderate" pack test for prescribed fire certification.
This position requires both office and outdoor work.
This position requires regular and recurring moderate risks and discomforts that require special safety precautions.
Qualifications
GS-09: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Monitoring, protecting, and managing of protected, threatened, and/or endangered species; collection and management of biological data; marking habitat by installing posts, signs, and painting; experience with administrative work including purchasing supplies and equipment; insuring maintenance schedules of vehicles and equipment are followed; provide oral and written communication.
