Learn more about this authority at: Direct Hire Authority This Fire Logistics Dispatcher position is with the US Wildland Fire Service, GS-2151-3/4/5/6 working in the following locations: Elko, NV Ely, NV Minden, NV Winnemucca, NV Draper, UT Not all locations may be hiring for all grades. As a Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-3), your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Provides a wide range of fire dispatch support functions and works closely with supervisor to input resource orders. Inputs fire weather data into weather application software. Records and maintains communication logs involving all telephone and two-way radio transmissions. Inputs and updates availability and status of resources within and outside the unit and ensures this information is available on a regular basis. As a Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-4), your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Provides a wide range of fire dispatch support functions. Receives fire location information and notifies supervisor. Processes resource orders, informs supervisor of logistical support activities, inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications, records and maintains communication logs. As a Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-5), your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Serves as a dispatcher, receiving, filling, and tracking resource order requests for fire and other emergency incidents. Collects, processes, collates and submits incident information to support intelligence activities. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. Processes and interprets weather information. Records and maintains communication logs. As a Fire Logistics Dispatcher (GS-6), your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Serves as a central district coordination point with capability to assemble or obtain suppression resources including helicopters, retardant aircraft, firefighters, and fire overhead personnel. Provides input to be used in fire plans and recommends changes as appropriate. Interprets weather information and gives to management for making decisions. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. Direct Deposit Required. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. This position may require the incumbent to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of their official duties. Selectee may need to hold and maintain a valid state driver's license throughout their employment in this position. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Subject to occasional travel particularly during fire season, and you may need to obtain a government charge card for travel. Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the Minimum Qualification requirements listed below. Only experience and education obtained by 04/27/2026 will be considered. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify for a GS-3, you must meet at least one of the following: 1). Six (6) months of general experience, which can be any work experience. -OR- 2). At least one (1) year of education above the high school level (30 semester or 45 quarter credit hours in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school). -OR- 3). An equivalent combination of education and experience specified above. To qualify for a GS-4, you must meet at least one of the following: 1). One (1) year of general work experience, which can be any work experience. -OR- 2). Two (2) years of education above the high school level (60 semester or 90 quarter hours in an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 72 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school). -OR- 3). A combination of the education and experience described above. To qualify for a GS-5, you must meet at least one of the following: 1). One (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-4 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include: Working with dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities. Work should have included experience such as determining priorities and selecting alternative resources while performing dispatch operations duties independently. -OR- 2). A successful completion of a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field. -OR- 3). A combination of the education and experience as described above. To qualify for a GS-6, you must meet the following: 1). One (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-5 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include: Working with dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities. Work should have included processing resource orders, coordinating with other dispatch organizations on mobilization and determining the status of available resources. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. *Applicants must meet all minimum qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the Job Announcement. Physical Demands: The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breaks and mealtimes. Must be able to cope with the pressure of meeting timeframes and changing priorities, Mental concentration and accuracy are required. Vehicle and aircraft travel associated with field visits and other administrative travel may be required. Work Environment: Work is preformed primarily in an office setting. During peak activity, increased radio traffic, numerous ringing phones, and conversations result in high noise levels, which require a high level of concentration to perform duties. The duties of this position create a highly stressful environment during peak activity, requiring the ability to keep calm in emergency situations. GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
