DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: The Radiology Informatics Specialist manages and ensures timely and
complete capture of Digital Imaging and communications in Medicine (DICOM) digital Image data into
the PACS system. The Radiology Informatics Specialist manages; radiology information systems
validation (RIS) and exceptions handling (occurrences of special condition). The Radiology
Informatics Specialist reports to the Imaging Director/Manager and IS Department with accountability
to both the clinical and the IS departments.
After completion of additional training in the field of
Picture Achieving and Communication Systems, and established competence, the Radiology Informatics
Specialist is able to obtain the position of a PACS Administrator within 12 month.
This position
also functions as the Radiology Quality Manager, by overseeing and performing in collaboration with
the RSO all QA/QC functions as it relates to regulatory requirements in radiology, as specified by
Joint Commission and ACR standards.
This position must maintain a productive relationship with
radiologists, technologists, doctors, department managers, Information Systems, and anyone in a
leadership position within the hospital and of site clinics.
This position supports strategic
organizational goals using information technology to facilitate customer service, improve patient
care and resolve business related problems. Integral to the role is serving as a key contributor in
the selection of information systems.
This position requires that the administer steps in and
performs direct patient care if required.RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:Â Graduate
of an accredited program for radiologic technology with a minimum of 6 years radiology technology
experience. Associate’s Degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Basic PACS experience is
required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: ARRT (RT) with current New Mexico State License, and BLS
certification required.
SKILLS: Â Demonstrated experience with current systems analysis principles,
practices, tools and techniques Knowledge of and experience with current PACS system and application
and design principles and concepts, including:
Technical and operations documentation
standards
Proven ability to communicate effectively with users and staff who have a variety of
levels of knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
Assist personnel in the operation of computer
systems and applications
Develop user, technical and operational training courses and
requirements.
Prepare documentation, charts, graphs, project plans, training materials and other
written communications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Professional work habits
and demeanor, including:
Ability to work independently or with limited supervision
Ability to work
well with people from different disciplines who may have varying degrees of technical
expertise.
Ability to work in a team environment and to contribute to the effective functioning of
that team.
Strong computer skills
EXPERIENCE:Â
Minimum Qualifications: Technologist with a
minimum of three years experience using a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Mechanical aptitude and ability with attention to detail required. Clinical experience with emphasis
on radiology systems required.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or 5 years PACS
Administrator experience preferred. Strong computer skills required. Biomedical and/or IT
experience preferred. Knowledge of McKesson Horizon PACS/CPACS, Cerner RadNet RIS preferred. Project
management experience strongly preferred.

General office and hospital setting with exposure
to computer room and patient care environment.
PHYSICAL and SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS: Â
Some
in-town travel required
May be required to work outside of normal working hours while on call for
issue resolution
May be required to work long hours during critical problems or implementations
May be required to withhold paid-time off during critical problems or implementations provided
adequate notice is given.
Ability to lift and transfer objects typically not in excess of 50 lbs.
Extended use of video display terminal and keyboard utilizing sound ergonomic principles.
