Job Description

The Memphis, Tennessee Veteran Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) has an opening for a Board Eligible/Certified Endocrinology Physician, specializing in Diabetic Medicine. Clinical activities may include, clinical assessment and evaluation, healthcare management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses; ordering and interpreting laboratory, diagnostic studies, consultations, referrals, patient follow-up, health promotion, disease prevention, clinical research, and patient/family/staff education and counseling.

Position requirements include, but not limited to:

  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism
  • Meet requirements for academic appointment at affiliate, University of TN Health Science Center.
  • Clinical practice, supervising and teaching fellows, residents, and medical students in the specialties of Endocrinology/Diabetic Medicine.
  • Age-specific care, including knowledge of changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric age groups: ability to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status; and ability to identify age-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon the age-related factors noted.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language.
  • US Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.

Position Highlights:

Pay: $240,000 - $270,000

Pay Incentives: Annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid

Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $2,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm with occasional call
