There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Perform a variety of installing, maintaining, repairing, overhauling diesel and gasoline internal combustion marine engines and other related equipment aboard floating plants. Successfully used power tools such as lifts, sling chains and/or rock hooks on a daily basis.
- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Required to stand, walk, and climb most of the time in performing assigned duties. Frequently reaches, bends, pulls, pushes, and lifts in order to move/install/repair heavy machinery equipment. Lifts objects up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Works in inclement weather conditions and exposed to open river conditions when working on marine floating plant equipment and is subject to dangers such as wet and/or slippery surfaces, snagged ropes and cables, and drowning. Works in confined/enclosed areas such as spaces between bulkheads and decks and the proximity of machinery. Conditions are subject to exhausts, fumes, noises, and cramped/awkward/uncomfortable positions. Works around moving/rotating/reciprocating machinery where there is danger of injury due to falls, cuts, bruises, and burns. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves and hard hats are used.
