Summary The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Arkansas is seeking experienced, motivated, and prosecution-minded attorneys to join our Criminal Division. This announcement will be used to fill vacancies in our Fort Smith and Fayetteville office locations. https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdar/ Learn more about this agency Duties The mission of the United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Arkansas, is to enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States, provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime, seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior, and administer and enforce the Nation's laws to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans. Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) located in the Criminal Division will be responsible for prosecuting a variety of violations of federal laws such as immigration, organized crime, domestic terrorism, child exploitation, human trafficking, drugs, firearms, public corruption, and white-collar crimes. Prior criminal prosecution experience is preferred. Assistant United States Attorneys are responsible for legal research and writing, directing investigations, case development, and case presentation in criminal cases. To be an effective federal prosecutor, the AUSA must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Successful candidates should have a strong academic background and the demonstrated ability to produce high quality written work. Successful candidates must work effectively with a team. Successful candidates should possess strong oral advocacy skills, communication skills, character, and interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated the capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Successful candidates must also possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and computer applications in performing day-to-day work requirements. Finally, successful candidates must have an exceptional work ethic, and a constant commitment to the fair and impartial administration of justice. Degree Additional information Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $76,748 to $197,100 which includes 17.06% locality pay. Travel: Occasional travel will be required to attend court proceedings and meetings throughout the Western District of Arkansas.
