Summary
This position will serve as an Information Receptionist at the VA Medical Center located in Battle Creek, MI. The Information Receptionist works independently, is self-directed, and has the knowledge and skills necessary for the operations of lodging patients on a given tour.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
Provides information about rules and regulations on a lodging unit.
Provides direction in the registration, clearances, and discharge process.
Reports incidents to a designated official on matters relating to violations of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures established by the facility.
Reports individuals who are absent at bed check to a designated official.
Reports the number of individuals registered, special incidents, and problems to management.
Conducts walk-through rounds of lodging areas to assure safety, such as fire safety and compliance with smoking policies.
Refers medical or psychiatric problems and emergencies or incidents of physical altercations to medical staff or security as appropriate.
Provides support by being an "extra eye" for environmental, medical, and psychiatric safety concerns and making contact with the proper resource for resolution.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 12:00a.m. - 8:00a.m

Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-4 GRADE LEVEL, YOU MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
EXPERIENCE: I possess at least one full year of general experience performing progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience includes providing customer service and communicating with a wide variety of people of different backgrounds.
NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: I have successfully completed two years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: I have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: The work is 75% sedentary and 25% manual labor. Typically, the work is sedentary but also requires some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, linen, patient's personal belongings, et cetera. Physical demands required, the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and able to push linen carts, wheelchairs, and other wheeled items.
