About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties
Teach a variety of classes in the Department of Systems Engineering (DSE) as part of the Systems Engineering (SE), Engineering Management (EM), and Systems and Decision Sciences (SDS) Programs.
Work under the direction of faculty within DSE.
Instruct undergraduate cadets in DSE courses such as Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or Systems and Decision Sciences courses.
Participate in professional development activities within the Department and at the Academy including the Department’s Faculty Development Workshop (FDW).
Develop cadets in voluntary curricular and academic extracurricular activities, the character, military, or physical development programs, or community activities contributing to cadet development.
Serve in and enrich all facets of DSE's mission including teaching, scholarship, service, faculty development, and cadet development.
Participate in DSE, Academy, and professional society governance including, but not limited to serving on and leading standing and ad hoc committees.
Advise and assist a limited number of cadets in course selection and capstone projects.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Appointment to this position may be subject to a two-year trial period.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 Months.
Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Applicants will be evaluated on the following:
1) Academic accomplishment (Ph.D. is preferred) in Systems Engineering (SE), Engineering Management (EM), Industrial Engineering (IE), Operations Research (OR), Data Science (DS), Statistics or another closely related field.
2) Ability to advise undergraduates in course selection and capstone research.
3) Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, evaluate, teach undergraduate courses within the DSE and continued growth in teaching.
4) Ability to contribute to the service of DSE.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

Two-year trial/probationary period may be required.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
This position is not eligible for regular, and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework.
