Summary About the Position: This position is located within the Womack Army Medical Center, Labor and Delivery Department. Incumbent is responsible for the provision of diagnostic and treatment procedures to antepartum, delivering and postpartum patients. Incumbent will also participate in the initial assessment and treatment of the newborn as required by the specific assignment. Salary negotiation may be available for candidates who are new to Federal service. Advanced in hire may be authorized. Duties Monitor patient's changing conditions throughout the course of hospitalization. Review patient's care plan for progress toward the achievement of discharge objectives. Provide instructions to patient and family for preoperative and post-operative procedures on cesarean section. Conduct routine nursing care tasks such as cleaning instruments, arranging supply cupboards and stocking supplies on a daily basis. Enter patient data into automated healthcare systems. Assess and take actions to alleviate problems reflected in subtle changes in the patient's condition such as contraction quality, fetal heart monitoring/qualities, dizziness or excessive bleeding. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the employee to maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse as a condition of employment. Work schedules may include Rotating Shifts, Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and other varying work schedules that may be unscheduled, intermittent, or on an on-call basis as required to meet the unit's mission. This position has been designated as essential during inclement weather conditions or other appropriate emergency conditions. Uniforms will be required. Required to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position requires a Pre-Appointment Physical. This position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician. Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. If selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal flu vaccinations. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Basic Life Saver certification. This position is designated as having regular and recurring contact with children under the age of 18 and is subject to requirements of DoDI 1402.05. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse: Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below: Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as monitoring patient condition with in an impatient setting; providing patients with instructions before, during, and after patient's stay; performing diagnostic tasks including obtaining vitals, specimen, and laboratory results upon physician's request; entering patient data into electronic medical records system. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
