Summary About the Position: This position is located at Madigan Army Medical Center, Department of Surgery - Occupational Therapy Service in Tacoma, Washington. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Learn more about this agency Duties Develop a treatment program according to the established goals in the treatment plan. Administer full range of occupational therapy modalities such as ultrasound, phonophoresis, electric stimulation and splinting. Provide instruction, education and motivation to patients. Make recommendations regarding additional services. Provide guidance and supervision to patients during clinic treatment and rehabilitation process. Maintain treatment areas, administrative areas and personal spaces in a safe and orderly manner. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination or must provide a recognized exemption. Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series (Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, etc.) This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position requires moderate to heavy lifting of up to 45 pounds (lbs). This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network within 30 days of employment. This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain current license or registration as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) within 6 months of employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: implementing occupational therapy treatment plans and reporting on occupational therapy patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
