Faculty position employed by the University of Texasat Tyler School of Medicine, practicing in UT
Health East Texas facilities. The Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Tyler School of Medicine
is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Medical Oncologist to lead our Gastrointestinal (GI)
Cancer Program as a Disease Team Leader. This academic role is ideal for an individual with a strong
commitment to clinical excellence, innovative research, and leadership within a dynamic,
multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing our
Gastrointestinal cancer research portfolio, mentoring junior faculty, and driving clinical
excellence within the GI cancer program. This is a full-time position with protected research time,
competitive compensation, and robust support for academic growth.Key Responsibilities:· Deliver
high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with GI cancers within both outpatient and inpatient
settings.· Design and implement innovative treatment protocols and clinical guidelines to advance
gastrointestinal cancer care in the institution.· Engage in regular tumor boards, case discussions,
and multidisciplinary planning sessions to ensure best practices in gastrointestinal cancer
treatment.· Develop and lead a clinical research program within GI oncology, with a focus on
innovative clinical trials, translational research, and/or health outcomes research.· Identify,
design, and lead clinical trials as principal investigator, with a focus on expanding institutional
clinical trial offerings for GI cancer.· Disseminate research findings through high-impact
publications, conference presentations, and community education.· Serve as a key representative for
the GI Cancer Program in institutional and regional cancer care initiatives.Leadership and Program
Development:· Lead the GI Cancer Program, guiding strategy, clinical initiatives, and programmatic
growth.· Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (including surgery, radiation oncology,
pathology, and radiology) to advance personalized and integrated care pathways for breast cancer
patients.· Mentor and support junior faculty, fellows, residents and medical students in clinical
and research activities, fostering a collaborative and educational environment. About Your Health
System: The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is the first medical school in East
Texas and the seventh in The University of Texas System. Its mission is to train future healthcare
professionals to embrace responsibility for the unique needs of rural and hard-to-reach communities
and populations, particularly those in East Texas. The school offers a robust Graduate Medical
Education program, with 20 residency and fellowship training programs, enabling graduates to gain
specialized skills in areas such as family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry,
surgery, and anesthesia. Additionally, UT Tyler’s Master of Biotechnology program provides students

preparing them for careers in medical research, diagnostics and therapeutic development.
Construction is currently underway on a five-story, 248,000-square-foot Medical Education Building
(MEB) in Tyler’s Midtown District. Connected by a skybridge to UT Health Tyler, the MEB will support
interdisciplinary education for medical students and resident training. It will also aid as part of
a medical education program expansion throughout the UT Health East Texas Health System. The
building is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025. Emphasizing a community-centered approach,
