Job Description
Summary
As a Laundry Technician you will perform duties and tasks related to laundry services at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Receives e-mail or work order request through an automated database/computer system for laundry service of biosafety level (BSL)-3 and BSL-4 laboratory clothing.
Sorts soiled laundry by kind of clothing in order to determine the type of laundry treatment to be given each group.
Inspects laundry for presence of compounds and mixtures that will damage washing machines.
Sorts laundered clothing by individual person, folds garments and places in cart for distribution.
Maintains stores of soaps, chemicals, starches, and other laundry supplies.

You must be a US Citizen or US National.
Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.

Testing Designated Position: Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use.
All USDA employees are required to be enrolled in Continuous Vetting, which authorizes government agencies to receive notifications of criminal activity on individuals who hold low risk, public trust, or national security positions.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. First time hires to the federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. Any travel, transportation, and relocation expense associated with reporting for duty will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
Heaviest weights handled are barrels of soap, weighing 300 pounds. These are tilted and rolled until manually hoisted to a two-wheeled cart and pushed for a distance of about 30 feet from storeroom to washing area.
Pushes or pulls four-wheeled carts carrying loads up to 120 pounds for distances of from 5 to 30 feet. Average weight of loads lifted to and from carts is 25 pounds.
Exposed to danger from moving parts of machinery, escaping steam and strong cleaning agents. Possible injuries are cuts, bruises, and burns.
Subject to possible exposure to contagious diseases, pathogens, and other environmental hazards within the laboratory.
