Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The MEPS play a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD and military services. This will be filled on a permanent basis. Learn more about this agency Duties Assist examining Medical Officer with applicant examination and identification of disqualifying enlistment/retention factors and/or determination of applicant’s fitness for military duty. Perform Medical Technician duties (i.e., collect and process medical specimens, perform laboratory testing, monitor and stock medical supplies, etc.). Ensure proper maintenance of medical testing/evaluative equipment. Provide technical guidance to subordinates. Lead Medical Exam Function team. Verify applicants’ identity using previously captured biometrics (i.e., digital fingerprints and photographs). Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. (Before 0600 or after 1800 hours) This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Measuring vital signs of applicants/patients (i.e., taking blood pressure, pulse, respiration readings); Collecting specimens (i.e., blood, urine, tissue) from lab or directly from patient; Cleaning and/or sterilizing medical equipment; Performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking; Analyzing results of medical tests; Electronic Health Record familiarity (MHS Genesis). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or a related field of study. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
