Duties
The U.S. Attorney's Office is currently seeking to fill Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) positions in the Criminal Division in our St. Louis Office. The Criminal Division is organized into four units: Violent Crime, Narcotics, White Collar, and National Security and Child Exploitation. As a member of the Criminal Division, an attorney is responsible for prosecuting a variety of violations and enforcing federal laws related firearms offenses, drug trafficking, public corruption, terrorism, white collar, organized crime, and crimes against children. Attorneys in the Criminal Division try a large number of cases, conduct proactive investigations using a wide range of investigative tools, and pursue matters involving undercover operations and confidential sources. Additionally, these attorneys research legal issues, draft motions or motion responses, and handle briefing and argument before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

You must be a United States Citizen or National.
Background Investigation, credit and tax checks, and drug test required.
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least one (1) year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Applicant must possess superior oral and written communication skills, as well as strong character and interpersonal skills; have demonstrated the capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment.
United States citizenship is required for consideration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Outstanding academic record; complex litigation experience involving white collar or civil litigation; exceptional research and writing ability; the ability to successfully represent the interest of the United States in federal court; the ability to handle and successfully manage a heavy case load involving complex cases.

Additional information
Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $78,695 to $197,100 which includes 20.03% locality pay.
Other Benefits: The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes, in part, paid vacation; sick leave; holidays; telework; life insurance; health benefits; and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.
