Summary
About the Position: Serves as a Nurse (Clinical) in a Military Treatment Facility or clinic environment within the Defense Health Agency. Provides professional nursing services and related duties during operating hours to eligible beneficiaries in an outpatient setting. Assignments may be varied according to patient care and staffing requirements.

Duties
Provides comprehensive nursing care for all ages and families in the Medical Home Port Team utilizing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and engages patients actively in their health care.
Directs and provides individualized age specific care for patients in all age groups, across the life span.
Directs, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates activities related to the delivery of ambulatory nursing care with the Medical Home Port Team.
Demonstrates clinical expertise in the execution of the nursing process and directs staff in its application.
Administers or supervises the administration of routine intravenous fluids and/or medications.
Monitors and/or administers diagnostic and therapeutic agents
Initiates and maintains medical history on patients, recording observations and stated symptoms for use by the Medical Home Port Team.
Observes and records pertinent vital signs, determines and orders laboratory procedures on patients that may be required by the provider to diagnose and treat the patient, per command and department policies.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
This position requires current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede Basic Life Support completion.
Pre-employment physical required.
Required to be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
This position has been designated โMission Essentialโ. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations may be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
Required to obtain necessary immunizations (i.e., Hepatitis B, annual influenza) unless exempted by a physician.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical)
Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirements below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) which includesproviding comprehensive nursing care for all ages and families in the Medical Home Port Team utilizing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and engages patients actively in their health care; directing and providing individualized age specific care for patients in all age groups, across the life span; directing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating activities related to the delivery of ambulatory nursing care with the Medical Home Port Team.
OR
Education: A master's degree in professional nursing.
EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree from a professional nursing program.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
