Summary
About the Position: Applicant will work a M-F 8 hour day shift in the Quality Support Services/Infection Control dept. Job consists of conducting chart reviews, data analysis, report generation, conducting infection control training and surveillance activities in assigned clinics/departments. Will need to be very well organized to ensure timely completion of reports and data submissions.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must maintain current licensure in a state and maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- If applicant is a registered nurse, they must maintain a valid, unrestricted license.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Position is identified as emergency essential.
- The work requires the employee to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays or other schedules common to hospital operations.
- Certification in Infection Control-CIC preferred but not required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience for the GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing clinically based infection control requirements/validation criteria; monitoring the infection prevention and control program; participating in the investigation of all hospital acquired infection events; and providing training to clinical staff on their infection prevention and control roles and responsibilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education for GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Infection Prevention and Control, Patient Safety, Microbiology or similar type degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience for GS-09: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
OR
Specialized Experience for the GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing clinically based infection control requirements/validation criteria; monitoring the infection prevention and control program; participating in the investigation of all hospital acquired infection events; and providing training to clinical staff on their infection prevention and control roles and responsibilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education for the GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Infection Prevention and Control, Patient Safety, Microbiology or similar type degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience for the GS-11: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
