Geneticist
Job Description
Duties include providing genetic counseling services to an ethnically diverse population for a variety of indications including:
- Advanced maternal age
- Abnormal aneuploidy screening
- Teratogen exposures
- Consanguinity
- Fetal sonographic abnormalities
- Infertility
- Recurrent pregnancy loss
- Family history of genetic disorders & congenital anomalies
- Abnormal carrier screening
- Personal and/or family history suggestive of hereditary cancer syndromes
Responsibilities:
- Complete genetic pedigrees, detailed medical history, and appropriate documentation in the medical record
- Consult with follow-up office and providers for review of abnormal screening results and appropriate follow-up of patients
- Evaluate patient records and family histories to identify high risk pregnancies and patients at high risk for hereditary cancer syndromes
- Perform comprehensive risk assessment and provide guidance regarding available screening and testing options, test results, diagnoses, and provide support in the exploration of patient options and resources
- Conduct literature searches and research on genetic diseases and testing pertaining to individual cases
- Maintain tracking system of genetic lab samples and results (eg. Panorama, Horizon, amniocentesis, cancer risk screening)
- Communicate with selected labs to ensure timely return of results and provide additional information when necessary
- Coordinate patient care with MFM as well as Breast Surgery and Hematology-Oncology
- Participate in genetic education opportunities including attendance to:
- Weekly OB/GYN grand rounds
- Weekly Pediatric/Obstetric case conference
- Weekly tumor boards o Monthly Cancer Committee meetings
- Various conferences/symposia in the New York area
- Prepare and present lectures on genetic topics to a variety of audiences
- Provide genetic education to OB/GYN doctors, midwives, genetic counseling interns, medical residents, and medical students
- Oncology support
- Shared services via telehealth
Educational Requirements:
- Masterβs Degree in Human Genetics and/or Genetic Counseling from a graduate program certified by the ACGC
Certification Requirements:
- Board Eligible or Board Certified β American Board of Genetic Counseling
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience preferred

Salary: $85,000 - $105,000
The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual salary may not fall within the listed salary range; consideration will be made for experience, training, hospital/community need, and other factors.
