Summary About the Position: This position serves as a Lead Medical Support Assistant in the Department of Medicine at Womack Army Medical Center. Responsible for training clerical staff, receiving and scheduling of appointments for outpatient clinics and reporting to supervisor. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense (DoD) Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Duties Plan work schedules and instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques, assigns work, taking into consideration priorities and requirements imposed by supervisors. Train new staff personnel. Maintain liaison with all clinics and other sections within the hospital regarding proposed and existing services. Provide administrative information in response to patient inquiries on the authorized treatment, estimated time to receive care, and general hospital procedures. Report to supervisor on performance, progress and training of employees, and on behavioral problems. Scheduling patients. Compile data of all of the VH appointments (both video and audio) and ensure all encounters have the correct detail codes associated with virtual care. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical duties such as maintaining files, answering telephone calls, and/or receiving patients/guest within a clinic or medical treatment facility (MTF); providing basic medical information to patients, medical staff, or the general public; and assisting with scheduling patient appointments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
