The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Graduate-Level Astrodynamics and Mission Design Intern for an opportunity in Colorado Springs, CO, El Segundo, CA, or Chantilly, VA
The Astrodynamics Department performs a wide range of orbit design and analyses to shape the future of the U.S. space enterprise. We help our customers invent new capabilities and develop some of our nation's most critical space missions. We develop and employ modeling and simulation capabilities for rendezvous and proximity operations, formation flight, constellation design, coverage analysis, space debris environments, space protection tactics, novel applications in cislunar space, and more.
Work Model:
100% Onsite: This position will be located 100% onsite in Colorado Springs, CO, El Segundo, CA, or Chantilly, VA
What You'll Be Doing
  • Work closely with Aerospace technical staff to develop and mature analysis software tools that are used to conduct a range of modeling, simulation, and analysis in areas such as space mission design, constellation design, orbital maneuvers, orbit estimation, space debris, and space domain awareness.
  • Interact directly with local Aerospace personnel and collaborate with Aerospace personnel in other locations.
  • Conduct analyses of system performance and architecture alternatives.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
  • Training and mentorship will be provided

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled fulltime in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in aerospace engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or other STEM-related discipline
  • Undergraduate degree completed by internship start date
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following computer languages/tools: C, C++, Fortran, Java, Matlab, Python, Simulink
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US Government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Transcripts required for this position

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Active security clearance
  • Research or professional experience working as a member of a technical team
  • Coursework or relevant experience in technical writing and technical presentation
  • Coursework, research, or professional experience in astrodynamics/orbital mechanics topics
  • Coursework, research, or professional experience in space-based modeling, simulation, and analysis, such as space mission analysis and design, algorithm design, and mathematical modeling
  • Coursework, research, or professional experience in advanced mathematical topics, such as optimization theory, game theory, statistical estimation, and numerical analysis
  • Coursework or relevant experience in modern software development, integration, and testing practices
  • Prior space-related work experience for a US government agency or contractor
  • Current DoD or SCI security clearance

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$30.00 - $35.00 - $38.00
