Job Description
JPMorgan Chase's Global Technology Applied Research team conducts research in cutting-edge emerging technologies, such as Quantum Computing and Communication, Cloud Computing and Networking, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (Ubicomp), Internet of Things (IoT), Security and Privacy, Computer Vision, and Edge Computing. Our firm is seeking a passionate junior or senior researcher and thought leader to perform applied research and development of novel solutions in these fields. As a key member of the GT Applied Research R&D team, you will work closely with internal project teams, senior management, and external communities alike in a way that is beneficial to the technical teams in the company. You will cultivate investigations into these areas, produce research solutions in collaboration with the internal project teams, and contribute to the firm's intellectual property and scientific reputation by producing patent applications and scholarly articles.
What to Expect
As a summer associate, your role will begin in June 2024, depending on your academic schedule. Your professional growth and development will be supported throughout the internship program via project work related to your academic and professional interests, mentorship, interaction with senior stakeholders and more. Our areas of focus include Quantum Communication, Quantum Cryptography, Symmetric Key Cryptography, as well as Post-Quantum Cryptography. Full-time employment offers may be extended upon successful completion of the program.
About You
We are looking for innovative problem-solvers with a passion for turning scientific research into commercial, business value. The focus of your role will be to:

• Advance the field of quantum-safe cryptography and their applications to the financial world
• Provide novel research solutions to problems faced by internal project teams
• Work with other researchers to document your findings in scientific papers
• Contribute to JPMC's IP by pursuing necessary protections of generated IP

Key Qualifications/Skills:

• Experience in one or more of the following domains:
• Experience in scientific technical writing
• Excellent analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated research ability
• Proficiency in Python/MATLAB
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present findings to a non-technical audience
• Enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. degree program in math, science, engineering, computer science or related fields
• No prior familiarity with finance or financial use cases required
• Quantum Information Theory
• Symmetric Key Cryptography
• Post-Quantum Cryptography
• Zero Knowledge Proofs, Secure Multi-party Computation
• Quantum Cryptography
• Quantum Cryptanalysis
• Preference is given to candidates with a strong publication record
