POSITION OVERVIEWHallmark's Print Internship provides you with an opportunity to gain experience in some of the following areas: lithography, flexography, industrial inkjet, secondary decorative processes (embellishments), prepress, process control, and color science/management. As a Print Intern, you will work on impactful projects rooted in real business needs. You will use your print or graphic technology acumen and problem-solving skills to address Hallmark's supply chain priorities, achieve live real-world objectives, and research, strategize, and develop feasible solutions for the problems at hand. Assignments are project-based with specific goals such as enabling new capabilities, increasing productivity, improving quality, and reducing costs.
Past projects have included:
- Evaluated various digital printing presses for quality, operation, and throughput.
- Helped developed new and improved inks, coatings, paper, plates, and related consumables.
- Researched new equipment and its application.
- Improved processes in gift wrap printing prepress, creating new profiles and eliminating waste.
- Automating prepress steps to simplify processes and gain greater efficiencies.
Some things that are shaping up to be prospective projects for the summer of 2024 include:
- Assessing various workflows with an eye to improving color management and proofing.
- Researching alternatives for various consumables in support of our sustainability journey.
- Evaluating and recommending digital die-cut solutions for our print-on-demand operation.
- Identifying an all-in-one solution to move work files between facilities and digital presses.
This is a challenging summer internship where you will have the opportunity to present your work and recommendations to senior leaders and business partners.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONSThe following is required to be considered for this role:
- Currently pursuing a degree in a graphics art, technology management, or another print/media discipline with a graduation date of May 2025, December 2025, or May 2026.
- Must be able to pass color blindness testing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- GPA of 3.0 or higher (must be stated on your resume).
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High learning agility and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent analytical skill.
- Goal and results oriented; works with urgency and a high degree of personal accountability.
- Ability to manage well through ambiguity.
- Previous internship experience in a graphics art, technology management, or other print discipline.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- All internships will be at the Hallmark Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, or at our outlying facilities in or near the Kansas City metropolitan area. This internship will occur summer of 2024 (typically late May through early August). The intern program at Hallmark is the primary source for entry-level full-time hires either directly after graduation or for future pipeline. Full-time hiring decisions are based on performance and business need.
