Summary About the Position: This position is with Evans Army Community Hospital, Directorate of Clinical Support, Department of Preventive Medicine at Fort Carson, Colorado. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Learn more about this agency Duties Participate in special studies related to a particular environmental health problem, or suspected medical condition related to environmental health factors and stresses. Prepare reports on potential environmental health hazards. Develop staff’s local regulations, procedures and/or pamphlets necessary for the administrative/operations management of the environmental health program in supported activities. Solve environmental health problems, exchange preventive medicine related information, and/or coordinate surveys. Provide technical advice and consultation of program operations. Develop and manage a program involving many guidelines and requirements. Plan, organize and/or direct on-site surveys and investigations to determine nature and severity of indicated hazards. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Government Driver's License. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations. Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. A one-year probationary period may be required. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service, which includes evaluating potentially hazardous environmental health conditions; preparing reports identifying environmental health risks; and providing recommendations to reduce or eliminate identified hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
