EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (T32)

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work involves knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of a variety of ARNG equipment, maintenance, and management sufficient to provide advice, assistance, and guidance to unit personnel. Work also requires knowledge of the full range of ARNG equipment standards, policies, regulations, and methods sufficient to review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment maintenance and training; and the need for improving existing practices that impact the overall equipment and maintenance program.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training which provided knowledge and skill in applying commonly used equipment, facility, or service principles and concepts. Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience which provided knowledge of maintenance programs and techniques. Knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design. Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience developing, installing, inspecting, or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques.

SKILL & KNOWLEDGE:
-- Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management of a variety of ARNG equipment sufficient to provide advice, assistance, and guidance to unit personnel.
-- Knowledge of the full range of ARNG equipment standards, policies, regulations, and methods sufficient to review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment maintenance and training; and the need for improving existing practices that impact the overall equipment and maintenance program.
-- Ability to instruct and provide classroom training involving equipment repair and modification; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; proper utilization and maintenance of equipment and facilities, etc.
-- Knowledge of and ability to oversee equipment programs, maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reductions programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is usually performed in an office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. However, there may be some occasional exposure to uncomfortable conditions in maintenance facilities. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts associated with production areas, exposure to strong odors or fumes from fuels or chemicals used in work processes; or working near operating machinery, moving vehicles, or electrical hazards. This requires the incumbent to continually stay alert and take special safety precautions, including wearing special protective items of clothing. This is not required.
