Job Description

Job Objective:
Safety leader with a vision for growing and maintaining an innovative and industry leading safety culture. Develop, Direct and influence safety and safety related programs across Hilcorp Alaska including supervisory duties for fire & medical emergency response, industrial hygiene, training, and field-based safety organizations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Optimize safety management systems for a diverse group of operating locations in Alaska.
  • Advise operations and support team leadership on safety management tools and process which can deliver desired performance.
  • Provide feedback to operational leaders on team level safety culture and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state safety regulations and adherence to good practices; clearly identify, communicate, and work with operations teams to resolve issues.
  • Provide visible leadership and guidance to asset leadership, operations, and safety team members.ย 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain onboarding programs and related contractor management processes for safety related training.
  • Demonstrate clear examples of adherence to all company values.,
  • Manage relationships, inquiries, interpretations, and responses to external inquiries.ย 
  • Define and communicate key leading and lagging safety performance metrics which influence safety performance.
  • Review internal and contractor incident investigations; provide guidance to ensure quality and consistency resulting in SMART recommendations and follow-through by field staff.ย 
  • Provide oversight and supervision of field-based personnel; set and communicate expectations, define goals, and hold staff accountable for accomplishing goals.ย 
  • Ownership, and Alignment, especially within the context of the safety discipline.
  • Regularly interact with Operations to understand impacts to operations, ensure programs and processes are aligned with safety management system objectives and Asset Team goals.ย 
  • Manage safety staff schedule: vacation approval and coverage, major project safety coverage, medical and emergency absences, training requests, etc.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and regularly conduct 1:1 sessions to assist employees with their performance and development.
  • Ensure that all applicable documentation is managed according to regulatory requirements and company expectations.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of applicable safety regulations, processes, and tools.
  • Accountable for management of aspects of contracts related to safety with support service contract companies.ย 
  • Provide feedback to contract companies on performance expectations and manage the annual Contractor Safety Performance review process.

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Work across team boundaries to communicate/understand impacts to adjacent programs and processes and identify opportunities for common solutions or tools.
  • Ensure effective communication of incident investigation learnings and work with operations managers to develop action plans to address hazards and deficiencies.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect company assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) years minimum experience in safety and operations in the oil & gas industry.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal safety regulations.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working team player who pays attention to details and can interpret operational needs in order to develop integrated, creative solutions.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex information into an organized and presentable manner both at the field and leadership level.ย 
  • Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and solutions-oriented approach with coworkers, supervisors, other departments, external agency officials, and the public.
  • Successful candidate will demonstrate that they can take ownership of the job responsibilities and hold themselves accountable for their successful completion.
  • Ability to be travel to remote field facilities including work in arctic and industrial facility environments as necessary to manage field-based personnel, validate field conditions and to establish & maintain good working rapport with operations personnel.
  • Proficiency in the use and application Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Management experience strongly preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • Required: Combination of education and/or job related experience roughly equivalent to Bachelorโ€™s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Professional accreditation / certification in a relevant safety or EH&S area
