Duties include: Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and modifies complex Telecommunication systems for the park's radio program. Writes programming in databases and provides encryption for various radio equipment at all park sites. Troubleshoots, maintains, and assures proper operation of the local and networked emergency alarmalert and security systems. Develops and maintains a park-wide plan for standards for alarm and security systems. Serves as a work leader on projects both for planning and on-site work. Makes needed changes in projects and of electronic equipment. Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains non-radio systems and electronics equipment. Makes appropriate repairs and adjustments in maintenance of testing. Physical Demands: The position requires the ability to hike moderate distances with loads up to 40 pounds, climb antenna towers up to 100' high, work long hours, be available for all emergencies, and work day and/or night under all weather conditions. Physical exertion such as crouching, stooping, stretching, or lifting of moderately heavy items is required often on field installation, and maintenance projects. The work performed in the workshop will be mostly sedentary with occasional bending, stooping, and lifting. Position requires flying in fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Work Environment: Work is performed both in and outdoors under all kinds of weather conditions where the elevation ranges from 6,000 to more than 12,000 feet. Thundershowers and lightning are common in the summer. The winter includes heavy snow fall, high winds, and wind chill factors that can be as cold as -50 degrees below zero. Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites. Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country. This position is located in Moose, WY. Services are available in the neighboring town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow. Government housing may be available. Requirements Conditions of employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/25/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: performing work on critical land mobile radio systems and units of a fire and security alarm systems; identifying and/or correcting deficiencies in radio systems and fire and security alarm systems; interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for the installation of radio systems and fire and security alarm systems; and responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of an organization's two way land mobile radio system. You must include hours per week worked in your resume to receive credit for experience. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement. Additional information A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
