Duties Based on guidance and direction from the Rangeland Management Specialist, employee will establish inspection schedules, contact the range user for the purpose of resolving conflicts or deviations from licensed use. Update case files and file information for allotments. Provide assistance by conducting grazing distribution, reasons for use, and utilization studies. Monitors and trains crews carrying out routine studies. Coordinate wild horse and burro surveys and adoptions under direction of a rangeland management specialist or higher graded employee. Identify needed improvement projects and recommend specific project locations and methods to be used. Provide assistance in pre-inventory mapping by preliminary type delineation and placing section corners on aerial photography. Conduct range inventory surveys and review data for technical accuracy; conduct data analysis for use by resource planners. Requirements Conditions of employment U.S. Citizenship is required. No assumptions will be made about your experience. At the GS-05 Level: 1. Have one year of specialized experience at the GS-04 or equivalent level that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of a Range Technician which is directly related to the work as described in the vacancy announcement, OR Have successfully completed a four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable, OR Have a combination of education and experience described above. Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentart when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending, and lifting. Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air-conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes and other hazards are common. The incumbent carefully adheres to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered. Education This position falls under the Range Technician Series, 0455. There are Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for this job series. This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience (see qualification section for education requirements). If using education to qualify - You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university.
