Summary About the Position: Incumbent will serve as Health Technician (Occupational) for Annapolis Naval Clinic This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Duties Performs routine industrial hygiene technician duties which cover investigation, analysis and resolution of problems applying conventional methods. Evaluates conditions in the work place which may adversely affect the health of employees at local military activities. Performs portions of industrial hygiene investigations or surveys which are being conducted by an industrial hygienist or performs conventional studies of limited scope and variety, e.g., ventilation studies, air and light surveys. Performs laboratory and work-site sampling and analysis. Assists in collecting and analyzing data to observe trends in occupational illness and injury. Performs or arranges for the calibration of equipment. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required. Must possess and maintain a valid US State issued driver’s license to carry out position related duties. Position requires certification in Audiometry. Position requires completion of a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved course in Spirometry within 6 months, and refresher training as required. Requires completion of audiometry by the Council of Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) within 6 months, and refresher training as required. Required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Screening patients to obtains medical history; 2) Reviewing completed physical examinations for completeness and accuracy and 3) Performing various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
