Summary
About the Position: This position is located with Army Medical Center Womack, Preventive Medicine, Fort Bragg, NC.
This position is Term Not to Exceed 3 years with the possibility of annual extensions.
It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
Plan, conduct, and administer inspections, surveys, and evaluations as part of a comprehensive industrial hygiene program for multiple military activities.
Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and recommend methods to control a wide variety of occupational and environmental health hazards in the industrial operations of the installations.
Brief commanders, staff members, supervisors, workers, and the general public on survey requirements and findings.
Prepare detailed technical reports of survey findings with recommended corrective actions.
Perform literature reviews and prepare technical papers, bulletins, circulars, and guides, as well as instructional manuals.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility may be required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
A pre-placement medical examination is required.
Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
Testing Designated Position (TDP)/Drug Testing- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement-
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with: conducting industrial hygiene surveys of assigned areas to determine the presence of potentially harmful chemical, physical, and/or biological hazards; preparing standard operating procedures, technical papers, bulletins, or guides; AND providing recommendations for elimination and/or mitigation of hazards found during surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement.
Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.

Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is NOT authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal Employees applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
This is an obligated position. An "obligated" position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, or return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s). Obligated positions may also cover employees who have been on extended leave without pay under certain circumstances. The incumbent will be required to sign a memorandum of agreement stating that they accept the terms of an obligated position.
This position may be made permanent without further competition.
