Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Auto Hobby, Beale AFB, CA This position is a Regular Full time (35-40 hours per week). Physical Effort: Frequent bending, reaching, and working in awkward positions. Occasional heavy 25lbs alone or 50lbs with help. Learn more about this agency Duties The primary responsibility of the Automotive Service Writer is to act as a liaison between mechanics and customers. This position enables mechanics to receive clear communication on customer expectations of work, as well as enable the customer to make well-informed decisions about what parts should be purchased, work performed, and amount paid. Maintain clear records, both written and typed, on work authorized by the customer and work completed by the mechanic in alignment with the Write it Right Program. Draft quotes, invoices, email communications, and process payments during each repair order by hand and in software provided by management. Oversee the proper ordering and receipt of parts needed to complete customer expectations. Act as functional liaison between the mechanic and customer during the service process. Handles daily transactions, cash, and safe contents. Reports issues of customer and/or mechanic satisfaction to management. Exacts fair fees on the customer in line with issued quotes and approved work and collects payment for such work. . Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have working knowledge of automotive systems, repair processes, and tools names. Ability to fill out and maintain computer-based logs, invoices, and quotes. Must speak, read and write English. Ability to research repair processes and required hours for repairs within provided software and automotive repair references. Must be able to follow written and/or oral instruction, make simple mathematical computations and be able to follow cash handling procedures. Technical training in automotive repair or service writing is highly desirable. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement..
