Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Facility. Flexible (meaning no minimum guaranteed hours- you could work between 0-40 hours per week depending upon facility need / weather) and no standard benefits Medium physical requirement with ability to lift move carry items up to 50 pounds or greater Minimum age requirement of 18 Irregular tour of duty to include evenings, weekends and Holidays Valid drivers license Drug tested position Duties The purpose of this position is to perform heavy laboring tasks which require significant manual skill and very heavy physical effort to operate equipment as necessary to maintain Outdoor Recreation facilities and/or Golf Course grounds. May operate field -type tractors with attachments, heavy, complex riding lawn mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment (e.g., multiple and independently-controlled cutting decks, single function components) and/or specially designed riding mowers that operate on slopes and require constant attention to working space and environment. Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage, and disengage components or attached devices when working around: trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, trenches, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles. Observes all safety rules and regulations pertaining to vehicle operations. Determines and selects the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish each phase of the work in the most productive and cost-effective manner. Completes all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design). Performs operator maintenance on equipment. Excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; fills and levels holes in damaged roads with concrete, gravel and/or asphalt, may install forms and lay walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems; and may be asked to operate dump trucks or other equipment. Uses a variety of hand tools such as pry bars, hammers, cutters, pliers, and wrenches in performing simple repair work and/or assisting others in more complex/difficult tasks. Loads and unloads full trash bags, bulky supplies, furniture, and materials. Moves trash cans picks up debris from greens/park areas. Uses a government computer for training requirements, time and attendance and for other job related purposes. Maintain daily safety logs on all assigned equipment. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of: large, complex riding mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment; skill in operating various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage and disengage components or attached devices; skill in controlling and maneuvering large, complex mowing equipment; ability to independently complete assignments involving several steps, phases or procedures; ability to follow written and/or oral instructions. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. Additional information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
