It opened in January 2020 as the first facility of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley, blending emergency services with inpatient care in a smaller, more accessible setting than a traditional full-size hospital. Unlike standalone emergency rooms, this micro-hospital provides a full-service emergency department with multiple beds and trauma bays alongside inpatient beds, enabling doctors and nurses to treat and observe patients who need more than immediate urgent care.
