Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith, Arkansas - Outdoor Recreation Pool. Some physical exertion is required while performing a swimming rescue. Must be able to lift 50lbs and over. This position requires the incumbent to hold, or be able to obtain, American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR certifications or a nationally recognized equivalent. THIS IS A SUMMER POSITION NOT TO EXCEED THE DATE OF October 1, 2026. Learn more about this agency Duties Instructs patrons on rules and procedures for safe swimming. Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons and enforces pool rules with customers. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, CPR, and calls for medical assistance when and if needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, inclement weather conditions, and closes pool until safe conditions prevail. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. May preform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: restocking restrooms, cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, sunbathing areas. This position requires the incumbent to hold, or be able to obtain, American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR certifications or a nationally recognized equivalent. Must be at least 16 years of age This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results. This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical. Qualifications Who May Apply: Open to everyone. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must be at least 16 years of age. Applicant must have successfully completed a nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training from the American Red Cross or similar recognized agency. Limited knowledge of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment and materials to perform standing and recurring tasks as needed. Ability to communicate effectively, orally. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. Additional information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
