This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties As primary care provider, incumbent conducts and directs collaborative care assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Obtains and records a problem-oriented health history; performs a systematic physical examination and interprets abnormal and normal findings to form a diagnosis regarding physical, emotional, or social disabilities. Participates in patient care rounds and conferences, presenting patient cases/topics and communicating patient management strategies to members of the patient care team. Educates patients and their families regarding healthcare processes and diagnostic tests; therapeutic regimen, including medication, diet, follow-up care; and methods of adapting medication and treatment to current lifestyles. Consults and collaborates with physicians regarding patient management, to include evaluating and revising therapeutic plans and managing high-risk, unstable, or extremely complex patients. Analyzes epidemiological, biostatistical, environmental, and other appropriate scientific data, related to individual, aggregate, and population health. Performs primary reviews and gathers information and participates in secondary and tertiary reviews. Engages with emergency department, operating rooms, wards, radiology, pharmacy, lab, medical records, and patient administration to collect information and provide education focused on the optimization of trauma care. Serves as a preceptor to graduate students enrolled in nurse practitioner and physician assistant programs, medical students and to newly assigned nurse practitioners. Coordinates and conducts in-service education programs for health care professionals and serves as an advisor/member of assigned committees. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Basic Requirement for Advance Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Advance Practice is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required. Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. AND Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Advance Practice or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes performing physical examinations, prescribing medications, and educating patients or staff. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
