Summary About the Position: Serves as the Education Program Specialist for the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) located in Cleveland, Ohio. Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work. Employees will routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements. Incumbent will be proficient in the use of current computer software, command-directed databases, and online resources necessary for proficient job performance. Position requires extensive temporary duty (TDY) travel within the MEPS area of responsibility. Employees may be required to perform occasional overnight travel as assigned. This travel may include temporary duty lasting 1-4 days. Duties take place in public and private schools, and incumbent must be eligible to conduct work in schools. Possession or ability to obtain a driver's license is a requirement for this position. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Education Program Specialist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position, such as An Education or Teaching degree, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses. OR Combination of Education and Experience: At least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position, such as an Education or Teaching degree, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR Experience: Four years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this position. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that the applicant possesses an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university. OR Teaching Experience: At least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience Required: One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing information and guidance on educational programs, such as the Career Exploration Program (CEP); Coordinate activities in support of educational services, marketing or program plans; Assisting students in evaluating career choices. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as an Education or Teaching degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Management Educational and Vocational Testing Program Management Relationship Building and Sustainment Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
