Summary This vacancy is for an Investigation & Compliance Specialist in the Bureau of Industry and Security within the Department of Commerce. Learn more about this agency Duties As an Investigation & Compliance Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Thorough knowledge of international business and economic practices. Thorough knowledge of specialized principles, concepts, and methods which underlie assigned program area, and domestic/international business and economic practices in order to analyze a wide range of different situations and reach or recommend sound action. Ability to research, analyze and interpret financial, statistical, economic and/or accounting data and information. Ability to identify issues and to differentiate between major and minor problems in the program area. Knowledge of agency and government laws and responsibilities in the area to which assigned sufficient to independently handle moderately complex problems. Ability to brief senior management on moderately complex issues in the program area. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a variety of formats. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Investigation & Compliance Specialist GS-1801-11/12, FPL GS-12 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location or local commuting area with the same qualifications and specialized experience. Requirements Conditions of employment You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. This position requires a TOP SECRET/SCI CLEARANCE: Any required investigations and clearances must be completed before the selectee can be placed in the position. You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use of possession of drugs. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS-11 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Applying a wide range of methods, principles, and practices while performing investigative and compliance activities; and Assisting in developing recommendations on various compliance infractions, and avoidance of procedural and regulatory requirements governing compliance licensing or processes such as export/import licensing, telecommunications licensing, and/or authorizations. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M, if related. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. To qualify at the GS-12 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Advising management on various compliance infractions, and avoidance of procedural and regulatory requirements governing compliance licensing or processes; and Researching, analyzing, interpreting and verifying financial, statistical, economic, and/or commercial trade data and information. Education See Qualifications Above.
