Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serve as an Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) for the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Riley, KS.

Duties
Operate a range of vehicles up to 36,000lb GVW and other equipment to collect recyclables for areas of the installation.
Collects recyclable materials from dining facilities, administrative activities, etc.
Performs operator preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle and equipment.
Receives, sorts and classifies a variety of recyclable materials.
Operates up to a 10K forklift and skidloader.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position is a Drug Testing position and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 100 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
Appointment to this position may be subject to a one year probationary period.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include operating a vehicle up to 36,000lb GVW to collect recyclables and performing preventative maintenance of assigned vehicle. I am able to sort, organize and conduct inventory of recycled material. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Note: you must upload the license to meet the requirement for this position.
Physical Effort: Physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Physical effort is required in carrying containers to vehicles; frequently lifts and carries 100 lbs. with assistance.
Working Conditions: Required to work inside and outside in all weather conditions. Exposed to mud, dirt, dust, and odors from the pickup and handling of recyclable materials. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of driving or when unloading recyclable materials. Must wear required safety equipment.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
