Summary
Serves as the lead photographer for the Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Public Affairs (OPA) and manages all Departmental photographic services providing professional level portrait, editorial and event photography. Performs a variety of duties related to the operation and maintenance of a technical photographic facility for still, copy, graphics camera work, color and black and white digital photography. Performs photography assignments at government and private-sector facilities.

Duties
As a Photographer, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
Responsible for the systematic classification, organization, preservation, and lifecycle management of permanent photographic records in accordance with agency records schedules and federal records management statutes.
Perform complex photography assignments nationwide at government and private-sector facilities.
Apply advanced techniques and comprehensive knowledge of photographic technology; solves technical problems by adapting, modifying, and devising equipment and methods.
Utilize computerized editing and standard editing techniques to provide complete photographic production services.
Plan and perform all duties involved in the formulation, execution, and arrangement for the writing of multimedia scenarios and storyboards.
Analyze customer requirements, selects and devises effective methods of approach, objectives to be achieved, target audience, availability of resources, cost-efficient budgets and milestones for completion.
Classify, organize, preserve, and manage photographic records per agency schedules and federal laws.
Maintain storage, backup, and digital preservation to ensure integrity and authenticity.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

Applicants must meet the Basic Requirements and Specialized Experience to qualify for this position, as described below.
Basic Requirements: Experience in operating standard and specialized camera and film processing equipment related to the position to be filled. Unpaid experience that is pertinent should be credited based upon its relevance to the work of the particular position to be filled.
Candidates must have an online sample of their work with a clear indication of their production role to be considered for this position. Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Qualifying specialized experience includes:
Applying a wide range of principles, practices, methods, and techniques for communicating information through photography.
Experience in all phases of photography production and editing and skill in modifying or adapting standard practices and procedures.
Efficiently planning and carrying out all phases of photography assignments by resolving challenges that arise with clients and other production personnel on technical and artistic issues.
Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level.

This position is inside the Local 12 AFGE bargaining unit.
