Summary
The District of Columbia Courts offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in court administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Courts’ mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia.
This internship is for Summer 2026.

Duties
This position is an unpaid internship working with the Small Claims Branch of the Multi-Door Division. The branch is responislbe for providing mediation and resloutions services to the community. The intern's major duties are below:
Small Claims Mediation Program Intern
Assist the Program manager with supportive tasks associated with the mediation case mangement process.
Observe various roles for operating and administering a court based mediation program.
Observe and learn about the mediation process.
Assist with the mediation information sheet and its distribution by email to associated mediators.

Background and security investigation are required.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must commit to a minimum of 6-8 hours per week over 1-2 days per week.

Qualifications
Applicant must be:
A U.S. Citizen or authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old.
Must be able to commit a minimum of 6-8 hours per week over one to two days a week.
Actively involved in an undergraduate program.
Preference will be given to students with majors in Law, Court Administration, Conflict Resolution majors or related fields.
Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
