Summary

The Vaccine Litigation Section represents the interests of the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services in cases arising under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act. In cases where petitioners are found entitled to compensation, financial calculations may be necessary. The selectee will engage in tasks such as calculation of lost earnings with appropriate offsets, make actuarial projections, review past expenses incurred, and reduce certain sums to net present value.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Financial Damages Analyst, (GS-0501-11/12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

To qualify for the GS-11, You must have at least have one full year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the federal service performing such duties as providing financial services for a litigation team to include calculating pecuniary damages; assisting in the calculations of potential settlement costs, and compensable out of pocket expenses; reviewing financial documents for accuracy and presenting any findings.
OR
Have a Ph.D or equivalent degree, or successfully completed at least 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field that is directly related to the duties of this position, OR, received an LL.M. Education must be in a field that is directly related to the duties of this position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 36. Add the two percentages. You MUST meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for the GS-12, You must have at least have one full year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service performing such duties as calculating and reviewing tax records to identify any concerns; applying federal and state tax rates and guidelines to cases in various states; calculating present and future pecuniary damages; and preparing an array of different financial calculations for court cases.
