Learn more about this agency Duties As a MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN, you will: Analyze medical records for completeness, consistency, and compliance requirements. Perform Quality Assurance (QA) audit surveys of selected subjects related to tasks performed as identified by supervisor. Maintain unit files of AFRH Directives, HCS SOPs, policies and other directives for ready reference by unit staff. Initiate a variety of routine and stat laboratory test and special diagnostic tests (i.e., CT scan, ultrasound, x-ray, etc.). Schedule follow-up test, and annual examinations for AFRH Residents. Assist unit providers requests for medical records from other healthcare facilities are made. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé. Specialized Experience for the GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience with medical terminology, medical records procedures, and techniques to organize resident charts; AND Reviewing medical records for accuracy and completeness. OR You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Successfully completion of 4 years of education above the high school level. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR You may qualify by a combination of education and experience as follows: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired. Education Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
