The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a Sr. Java Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Serve as a major contributor extending and improving the large-scale back-end server which is the cornerstone of all of 3M healthcare speech technology. 3M's healthcare documentation products save lives and help prevent burnout by reducing the documentation load for physicians in the US and all over the world.
• Envision system features and functionalities that conform to the business goals and are useful to the end user. Contribute in all phases of development lifecycle by proposing changes, documenting technical designs, writing code changes, and developing automated tests.
• Architect and implement new strategies to take advantage of cloud technologies for storage, data queries, delivering web services, intelligent resource use, and system monitoring.
• Collaborate with other members of the R&D team to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues.
• Implement agile development concepts for continuous testing and frequent, small releases.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher from (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

OR

• High School Diploma/GED or higher from a (completed and verified prior to start) and eleven (11) years of experience in the software environment

• Five (5) years experience coding in java development for large-scale backend services on Linux
• Two (2) years experience with version control, build tools and unit tests
• One (1) year of experience with AWS based services

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Experience with authentication protocols and requirements for secure web applications
• Experience with non-AWS cloud platforms
• Experience with Tomcat, NGINX, Kubernetes

Travel: Occasional travel may be required

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
