Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Fort Campbell with the Directorate of Public Works. Learn more about this agency Duties Functions as a Working Leader Locksmith of 3 or more employees within the Lock Shop under Directorate of Public Works (DPW). Plans, designs, and lays out instructions on assembling and installing all different types of locks and hardware. Designs charts and graphs, and establishes codes to identify location and combination of locks, ensuring that there are no factors common to other systems, whereby holders of keys could gain access to area for which their keys were not intended. Repairs and opens locks, makes keys, and changes combinations, using special hand or bench tools and equipment to repair the following types of locks: cylindrical passage, cylindrical key-in knob, gate locks etc. Adjusts or removes, disassembles, repairs, reassembles, and reinstalls equipment. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires a pre-employment physical examination. This position requires lifting up to 45lbs. This position may require Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 5%. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license. This position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and in other situations. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Locksmith Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. 1) Use the full range of locksmith tools, machines, and equipment; 2) Disassemble locks and repairs or replaces faulty tumblers, springs, pins, etc.; 3) Troubleshoot and repair many different types of mechanisms; 4) Inspects worn or inoperative locks to determine repairs needed; 5) Open locking mechanisms by manipulations or by drilling. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work involves standing, stooping and bench work, and continuous movement of hands. Sometimes entailing working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Normally lifts and carries items weighing up to 10 lbs., seldom more. Close eye-hand coordination is required in repairing and fitting. Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and setting up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 lbs., avid occasionally more. Motor Vehicle Operation. Light physical effort is used in reaching and bending, turning, or moving hands, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Usually works inside, in well-heated or ventilated quarters, occasionally working outside, but then, usually in good weather. Is exposed to danger of cuts and bruises to hands from power or hand tools. The work involves exposure to noise levels above 85dB(A) but below 110db(A), which are reduced by use of hearing protective devices. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job. Motor Vehicle Operation. Is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of driving accidents. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
