As a Supervisory General Engineer, you will collaborate in the planning and management of a comprehensive facilities stewardship program. You will monitor the schedules and costs of several ongoing facilities projects and coordinate design phases with facilities staff and other parties. The Division of Technical Resources (DTR) is recruiting for its Central Utility Plant Director position. The Director of Utilities leads a team of over 80 staff members, coordinating engineering, operations, and maintenance. This position manages a $30 million budget, focusing on financial planning, operational efficiency, and project improvements. This position manages the operation and maintenance of NIH's expansive utility systems, including boilers, chillers, cogeneration plants, and industrial and thermal energy storage systems. This position oversees the distribution of utilities across the Bethesda campus, coordinating projects, and ensuring systems operate at peak performance, all while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. This position oversees advanced water testing and treatment and uses technologies like automated flow cytometry, ATP methodology, and PCR to prevent waterborne pathogens and maintain high water quality standards. This position collaborates with data science teams to integrate advanced methodologies into utility operations. The Director of Utilities implements predictive maintenance measures and uses real-time analytics to enhance system safety, reliability, and efficiency, supporting strategic decision-making. The Division of Design and Construction Management (DDCM) is recruiting for a Supervisory General Engineer position. This position serves as a senior manager and a principal advisor to the Director, DDCM and the Director, ORF, with responsibility for managing a comprehensive design and construction management program involving major projects for NIH facilities. This position oversees the development and implementation of policies and procedures for design and construction activities. The position plans and directs a comprehensive construction management program to support design and construction, alterations, renovations, repairs, and improvements necessary to support the beneficial use of NIH facilities, and to ensure the safety and physical security of occupants and the physical integrity of NIH real property assets and contents. The position represents the Director, DDCM and other senior ORF and NIH officials at meetings and conferences with other Federal agencies, state and county governments, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, contractors and vendors, and other organizations involved in facilities design and construction activities. The Division of Facilities Operations and Maintenance (DFOM) is recruiting for the Chief of Research Triangle Park (RTP) Facilities Management Branch position. RTP delivers facility-related services to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including high voltage electric, water, and heating and cooling in Durham, North Carolina. This position is responsible for all facilities activities including managing all operations, maintenance, design, engineering, construction, and master planning. This position assists the DFOM Director as needed. This position also manages NIH property at the New Iberia, Louisiana Research site. The position oversees the design, operation, and maintenance of utility services to NIH property as well as the EPA facilities at RTP. The position is responsible for compliance with facilities accreditation with the Joint Commission and Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. Qualifications In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements of an General Engineer, GS-0801 position, you must have: A. a degree in professional engineering from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; OR B. a degree in professional engineering that includes differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced that first-year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the following 7 areas of engineering science or physics: (1) statics, dynamics; (2) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (3) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (4) thermodynamics; (5) electrical fields and circuits; (6) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (7) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics; OR C. be registered as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico; OR D. be currently registered as an Engineering Intern (EI) or an Engineer in Training (EIT); OR E. successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.; OR F. successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described above; OR G. successfully completed a curriculum that led to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology OR in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology AND have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. In addition to the Basic Qualifications above, to qualify for a Supervisory General Engineer, GS-0801 position at the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams of engineers, operations and maintenance staff, and other support staff to ensure reliable operations of utility systems; developing and maintaining policies and standards governing the development and use of real property; planning and managing the workload of engineering and architectural teams working on construction projects; leading design teams for architectural and engineering projects; providing briefs, advice, and guidance to senior level officials and staff on progress, issues, and potential issues or controversies as they relate to design and construction management.
