Learn more about this agency Duties You will perform sampling of potential health hazardous exposures to chemical, physical and biological stressors in a variety of workplaces. You will review files for previously collected data, plan/manage sample collection in accordance with assigned monitoring programs, and coordinate monitoring efforts with serviced command personnel. You will provide meticulous documentation of time course of events and workplace parameters which characterize the measured exposure. You will measure airflow rates, patterns, and pressure differentials to assist the Industrial Hygienist in evaluating the effectiveness of exposure control measures. You will calibrate industrial hygiene instrumentation including various types and models of sound and analysis equipment, air sampling pumps, and direct reading analytical equipment. This announcement uses the NDAA non-competitive authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service for a period not to exceed 24 months. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. Incumbent must be immunized on an annual basis against influenza. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Qualifications GS-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducts pre-inspection conferences with management to explain the nature and scope of sampling survey. Promotes sound industrial hygiene practices by working with employees to provide technical assistance. Managing equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair programs of environmental or industrial hygiene equipment. Preparing Instructional outlines and providing technical instruction to IH professionals, technicians, and workplace monitors on the use of new technically advanced equipment. Collection of workplace monitoring in support of exposure monitoring plans. GS-06: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying practical knowledge of Industrial Hygiene concepts and principles. Managing equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair programs of environmental or industrial hygiene equipment. Preparing Instructional outlines and providing technical instruction to IH professionals, technicians, and workplace monitors on the use of new technically advanced equipment. Collection of workplace monitoring in support of exposure monitoring plans. GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Uses industrial hygiene or environmental instrumentation, gathers and analyzes data. Provides written documentation of sampling results for inclusion in reports. Utilizes MS Office Suite software (such as Word, Excel, and/or Access) and other databases to enter data into monitoring systems. Prepares standard operating procedures for industrial hygiene equipment and calibration. Education SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION GS-05: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. Additional information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
