The primary purpose of this position is: To exercise second level supervisory, managerial authorities over the Installation Youth Programs and provide a comprehensive, professional youth program consisting of a balance of well-rounded, positive experiences for youth 5-18 years of age. Youth Activities & Sports and School-Age Care programs as defined in AFI 34-144. Duties Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time. Plans, implements, and carries out a comprehensive, professional youth development program for youth ages 6 - 18 consisting of sports and fitness programs, instructional classes, school-age program (before and after school, school holidays, and summer), and the five core program areas: character and leadership development; the arts; youth sports, fitness, and recreation; health and life skills; and education and career development. Services include diverse, engaging, and appealing activities for boys and girls of all ages and backgrounds. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-01, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes providing a comprehensive, professional youth program consisting of a balance of well-rounded, positive experiences for youth 5-18 years of age focusing on Youth Activities, Youth Sports and School-Age Care programs. IDEAL CANDIDATE: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Youth Programs Director to lead our comprehensive youth services. The ideal candidate will be a strong supervisory leader with a proven ability to manage staff effectively and a passion for creating and implementing world-class youth development programs for ages 6 to 18. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of professional youth development; education and recreation principles; and training techniques, theories, and principles; and the behavioral needs of youth with emphasis on social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. 2. Knowledge of youth program principles, concepts, techniques, and the methods and processes involved to effectively plan and conduct ongoing social and sports programs. 3. Knowledge of federal and agency policies, applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations governing the management and administration of a youth center and its programs. 4. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 5. Skill in developing and maintaining a range of activities and services that meet participant's and community interests and needs, and in analytical and evaluative techniques and methods to assess program effectiveness. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
