Summary About the Position: This announcement is being used to fill a Health Technician (Orthopedic) position in the Department of Surgery at Army Medical Center Madigan. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service Duties Apply correct positioning techniques to support patient comfort and avoid injury or worsening conditions. Prepare and set up the fracture table for body cast application. Perform routine inventory checks and maintain proper storage and security of all supplies and equipment. Prepare operative areas for surgery following established instructions and standard procedures. Escort patients to exam rooms while providing directions throughout the clinic and hospital. Support front desk staff with patient check in and phone monitoring. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position may require moderate to heavy lifting up to 15 pounds. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participate in random drug urinalysis testing. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification prior to employment in accordance with AR 40-68. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting physicians in the treatment of orthopedic patients; fitting and applying off the shelf Orthopedic devices including splints, slings, walking boots; preparing and cleaning treatment areas and sterile fields while maintaining necessary supplies and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04) OR Education: Four-year course Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as Orthopedics, Health Technician, Health Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
