Summary The Facilities and Equipment Assistant provides operational and customer service support within the Facilities Management Section of the United States Tax Court. Regular physical activity is involved, to include lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds and moving equipment with cars and dollies. Work is performed entirely on-site (no telework). Work hours: 6am to 3pm (Monday through Friday, 40 hours weekly). Learn more about this agency Duties Provide customer service support to Judges and staff by receiving and fulfilling facilities services requests for office supplies, deliveries, transportation, and minor repairs Process and track facility's work requests and communicate with appropriate personnel to ensure timely completion Conduct daily building walkthroughs to identify maintenance or safety issues Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments and maintain accurate inventory records in Microsoft Excel Prepare requisitions for equipment, tools, materials, and furnishings Deliver office supplies, assist with periodic supply inventories Escort contractors and cleaning staff to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently Perform minor repairs, furniture assembly, maintain and organize storage areas, assist with event setup, and other facilities related tasks as needed Maintain and operate the Court's Government Vehicle (GOV), including transporting Judges and Court staff members when required Requirements Conditions of employment Applicants must be United States citizens or nationals or otherwise eligible to work for the federal government All Court employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for U.S. Tax Court Employees All applicant information is subject to verification Those who are required must abide by Selective Service registration requirements Selection for this position is contingent on a favorable suitability determination and security background check, to include credit check, federal income tax check, and criminal background check. A candidate selected for this position must be current on his or her federal income tax obligations before employment with the Tax Court and must remain current while employed by the Tax Court. Continued employment post-appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of the background investigation and credit check, and favorable adjudication. Subsequent background reinvestigation or supplemental investigation may be required The Federal Financial Reform Act requires direct deposit of federal wages for Court employees Employment at the United States Tax Court is subject to the provisions of the United States Tax Court Personnel Management System, a distinct system of personnel management practices specific to the Court as authorized by Public Law 111-366 The United States Tax Court Personnel Management System adheres to the provisions set forth in section 2301(b) of Title 5, United States Code (Merit Systems Principles) and section 2302(b) of Title 5, United States Code (Prohibited Personnel Practices). All United States Tax Court personnel must conduct themselves in accordance with these provisions. Employment with the U.S. Tax Court is "at-will" under Excepted Service appointments. Employment may be terminated at any time by either party, with or without cause New appointments to the Federal service require a probationary or trial period of 52 weeks depending on the duration and nature of prior periods of Federal service Court employees are entitled to substantially the same benefits as other Federal employees Applicants must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds and carry items up to 200 feet A valid, current driver's license issued by a State or the District of Columbia is required, as is proof of a clean driving record Qualifications Special Rating Factors Knowledge of supply, equipment, and inventory management practices Basic knowledge of federal procurement procedures, laws, and regulations Knowledge of building operations and office equipment Ability to prepare reports, requisitions, and correspondence using Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment Education Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have at least one year of work experience. Additional information Appointments under the United States Tax Court Personnel Management System subsequent to January 4, 2011, do not grant the rights to (a) appeal a reduction in grade or removal to the Merit Systems Protection Board under chapter 43 of Title 5, United States Code; (b) appeal an adverse action to the Merit Systems Protection Board under chapter 75 of Title 5, United States Code; (c) appeal a prohibited personnel practice described under section 2302(b) of Title 5, United States Code, to the Merit Systems Protection Board under chapter 77 of that Title (d) make an allegation of a prohibited personnel practice described under section 2302(b) of Title 5, United States Code, with the Office of Special Counsel under chapter 12 of that Title for action in accordance with that chapter; or (e) file an appeal with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under part 1614 of Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
